One of Those Extraordinary Days in Charleston

Yesterday, Hurricane Earl passed off the South Carolina coast, far enough away to suck all the bad weather into it, but close enough to make some great waves.  My husband and I decided to take the rest of the afternoon off at around 3:30PM and head to the Isle of Palms to see the wave action.  Normally we would go to Folly Beach, but the waves there were so big (10-14 feet) that they ate up the beach.  IOP on the other hand, was a nice 4-6 ft with a wide sandy beach to relax on, even at high tide.

After surfing attempts by him and white water playing by me in the cooled-by-the-gulf-stream ocean, we headed back home.  Flying over the Ravenel Bridge, we saw what is not an infrequent occurrence, but lovely and inspiring all the same.   A glowing orange sunset.  A perfect end to a perfect Charleston day.
