Just Another January Day in Charleston

Since the high was in the mid-60s the past weekend, we jumped at the opportunity to get out on the water and enjoy a spectacular blue day.  My husband, his brother and I hauled my kayak to Shem Creek, rented two others from Coastal Expeditions and paddled our way out to Crab Bank in the middle of Charleston Harbor.  Crab Bank is only accessible November through March since this little island is a protected rookery for shore birds. April through October is nesting season!

After a little lunch on the beach overlooking the Charleston skyline, we meandered into the creek that fronts the Bayview neighborhood, then back into Shem Creek where the dolphins (and people) were enjoying a glowing afternoon amid the shrimp boats and restaurants.  It’s days like this where I am grateful to be down South, immersed in such natural beauty, only 10 minutes from my house.  Ahhhhhh….
