Sullivan’s Island

Sullivan’s Island is the closest barrier island to Downtown Charleston – a mere 15 minute drive. Steeped in history with a small town feel, it is popular among full-time residents and even boasts one of the highest per capita incomes on the east coast. The beach here is popular with families due to the calm waters and views of ships coming into the Charleston Harbor. On a sunny summer Saturday, you’ll find people spilling out of the great restaurants that line Center Street. Homes on Sullivans start around $2,000,000 for an historic fixer upper cottage, and go well into the $10,000,000 range. Only a small number of condominiums exist and short-term vacation rentals are rare as they were prohibited decades ago. Visit the town website for more information.[/col2]

Find My Favorite Local Businesses on Sullivan’s Island

Poe’s Tavern

Named after Edgar Allen Poe, since he was stationed in Sullivan’s in 1827, this pub has been the most popular place on the Island since 2003. It is frequented by locals and tourists alike – day and night. Belly up to the outside bar and order one of the best burgers in town.

Obstinate Daughter

Opened in 2014, this upscale, beachy vibe restaurant is my favorite on Sullivan’s. I gawk at the fantastic interiors, while enjoying pretty much everything on the menu. Try the Mepkin Abbey mushrooms or the Anson Mills Farro, and be sure to make a reservation well in advance.

Brooks Custom Woodworks

If you can dream it they can build it.  Using sustainably sourced wood or reclaimed pieces, this duo, plus their shop dog, Teak, can outfit your home with custom masterpieces, or just a really useful cabinet.
